How to use speech to text in Google Translate

The steps differ by device. All three start with the same prerequisite: your browser or your phone needs permission to use the microphone.

On a computer

  1. Give your browser permission to use your microphone, and check the microphone settings in your operating system. On a Mac these live in System Settings; on Windows, in the Control Panel or Settings app.
  2. Open the Google Translate website.

Is Google Translate speech to text free?
