Download and Install ParrotKey
Step-by-step guide to downloading and installing ParrotKey on macOS and Windows. Get set up in minutes.
Download from parrotkey.com
ParrotKey is available for download from the official website at parrotkey.com. The download page automatically detects your operating system and offers the correct installer for your platform.
Install on macOS
- Download the .dmg file. Two versions are available: one for Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) and one for Intel Macs. The website will recommend the correct version for your hardware.
- Open the .dmg and drag ParrotKey to your Applications folder. Double-click the downloaded .dmg file to mount it, then drag the ParrotKey icon into the Applications folder shortcut shown in the window.
- Launch ParrotKey. Open your Applications folder and double-click ParrotKey. On first launch, macOS may show a Gatekeeper warning because the app was downloaded from the internet. Click "Open" to allow the app to run.
ParrotKey requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. If you are running an older version of macOS, you will need to update your operating system before installing.
Install on Windows
- Download the installer (.exe). Click the Windows download button on parrotkey.com to get the installer file.
- Run the installer and follow the prompts. Double-click the downloaded .exe file to start the installation wizard. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
- Handle the SmartScreen warning. Windows SmartScreen may show a warning because the app is from a new publisher. Click "More info" and then "Run anyway" to proceed with the installation.
After installation
Once ParrotKey is installed and launched for the first time, you will see the onboarding flow. This guides you through creating your account, granting the necessary permissions, choosing your hotkey, and selecting your languages.
ParrotKey runs in the background via your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (macOS). You do not need to keep a window open β the app is always ready when you press your hotkey.
Automatic updates
Auto-updates are enabled by default. ParrotKey will check for new versions periodically and notify you when an update is available. You can install updates with a single click, keeping your app up to date with the latest features and improvements.
Platform Notes
Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel versions are both available. Minimum requirement is macOS 14 (Sonoma).
